Dear Fans of Empire Earth II,
Well, it's time: the game is done! You should be able to find a copy of Empire Earth II just about anywhere in the known world within a few days; although you might want to hurry because with the awesome reviews we're getting it could sell out fast!
For my last newsletter before you all have the game, I just wanted to describe some of the features we've added that help you control your empire. Out motto for Empire Earth II has been "Epic Conquest Evolved" and that has very much steered our design. Our goal was to make it easier to be the ruler of a big empire while continuing to add depth to the gameplay. We want you to be the General, not a Private. That's the core of Strategy!
The Citizen Manager
One thing you'll notice right away that fits that description is the Citizen Manager. It's one of the most praised features in the game and deservedly so. In past RTS games you had to chase down every individual citizen and make a good guess as to what resource they should be harvesting. Needless to say, when you have over a hundred citizens, that's too hard to do, so most people couldn't efficiently manage a big economy. With the Citizen manager, you can instantly see how many citizens are harvesting each resource, and retask them with a simple click of the mouse. You keep 100% of the strategy and lose the micromanagement!

Empire Earth II is divided into 15 epochs that span over 12,000 years of human history. As you advance through the epochs, new and improved units and structures become available. This month's featured epochs are:

|
Digital
1980 AD - 2030 AD
The ubiquity of computing fuels rapid and sustained military and industrial advances. The Internet creates a new era of commerce and communication.
|

|
Genetic
2030 AD - 2130 AD
Genetic engineering has eliminated many diseases, but experimentation has produced many unforeseen biological and social consequences. Robots become common in homes and workplaces.
|

|
Synthetic
2130 AD - 2230 AD
Advances in genetic engineering, computers and robotics have combined to create something truly amazing: actual artificial intelligence. Unfortunately, with the risk to actual human life minimized, "smart bots" are used extensively in another round of world wars.

Picture-In-Picture
Likewise, once your empire grows to have multiple cities and you have battles in multiple places, in most RTS games you are bound by what you can see on screen. That means you're making a General's decisions with only the info available to a Captain. With the Picture-In-Picture, you can bookmark and track up to six different locations or units. You can be managing a battle in your main view and still have your base in the PIP, letting you select buildings, queue units, and pull reinforcements into the fray without ever leaving the battle!
War Plans
And coordinating battles with allies has never been easier or more effective! The War Planner lets you draw team-color-coded arrows, Xs, and Os on the map and append it with text to let your allies know exactly when and where to attack. I have won many games with the good use of War Plans; it's shocking how much better team play is with this tool. It's so much more now about who has the better strategy than who was looking at their scrolling chat text the closest!
Just the Beginning
The game is done, but the community is just starting to grow. We intend to keep supporting Empire Earth II and its players by continuing to refine the balance and add new and better ways to enjoy both the Single Player and Multi Player experiences. This has been the biggest project we've ever done at Mad Doc, and it has exceeded everyone's expectations, and we're very proud to present you with the next great RTS game, Empire Earth II.
Enjoy!
Best,
